Before you commit

🌾 Joining as a shareholder

  • Any cultivator in the operational area can subscribe to shares — owner or tenant
  • Carry Aadhaar, a land record or lease deed, and a bank passbook
  • Ask three numbers: share value, last year's turnover, last year's patronage bonus
  • Ask when the AGM is held and whether accounts were audited on time
  • A body that will not show you its audited accounts is not one to join

📦 Placing your first bulk order

  • Look up the CIN on the MCA portal yourself — it takes a minute and settles who you are dealing with
  • Match the certificate to the lot: an organic tick means nothing if the scope excludes this crop
  • Fix weighing, moisture tolerance and rejection terms in writing before dispatch
  • Visit or send an agent for the first lot; sample couriers are normal practice

Working with an FPO in Coimbatore — what to look at

A farmer producer organisation is a company whose shareholders are the growers themselves, so the trading margin a middleman would take stays inside the village. Four things decide whether a particular collective is worth your time. First, registration: every producer company has a corporate identity number you can look up yourself, and a body that hesitates to give it is telling you something. Second, the plant — a collective with a drying yard, a grader and a cold room can hold a lot until the price is right, while one with only a collection shed must sell the day it buys. Third, the shareholder base: a large number is only meaningful if the accounts were audited on time and the annual meeting actually happened. Fourth, certification scope — an organic or export certificate covers named crops and named seasons, so read the scope, not the logo. On this page the green ticks mark facts we matched against a filed record or a certificate copy, and the grey outlines mark what the collective told us and we have not checked. agri.in never buys, sells or brokers a consignment, holds no money, and charges farmers nothing.

Common questions

What is an FPO and how is it different from a trader?
A producer company is owned by its farmer shareholders. It gathers many small harvests into one graded lot and sells that lot, so the margin a trader keeps stays with the growers instead. It is registered under the Companies Act, files returns, and carries a corporate identity number you can look up on the MCA portal.
How do I join an FPO near me?
Call the collective listed for your block and ask about subscribing shares. Most ask for a one-time share amount, a small membership fee, and Aadhaar plus your land record or lease deed. Membership is a matter between you and the producer company — agri.in only lists them and never takes a fee for an introduction.
Are the member counts on these pages checked?
Only where a green tick says so. A grey outline means the collective typed that figure itself and no document has been seen for it. A green tick means we matched something filed — the corporate identity number, or a return we hold a copy of. We would rather show you an unchecked number honestly labelled than a checked-looking one we cannot stand behind.
Does agri.in take a cut of the trade?
No. We are not a buyer, a seller, a broker or a commission agent, and we never hold goods, money or an escrow. Buyers and collectives deal with each other directly on their own terms. Our income is advertising and verified enquiry leads paid for by businesses — never by farmers.
