What is an FPO and how is it different from a trader?
A producer company is owned by its farmer shareholders. It gathers many small harvests into one graded lot and sells that lot, so the margin a trader keeps stays with the growers instead. It is registered under the Companies Act, files returns, and carries a corporate identity number you can look up on the MCA portal.
How do I join an FPO near me?
Call the collective listed for your block and ask about subscribing shares. Most ask for a one-time share amount, a small membership fee, and Aadhaar plus your land record or lease deed. Membership is a matter between you and the producer company — agri.in only lists them and never takes a fee for an introduction.
Are the member counts on these pages checked?
Only where a green tick says so. A grey outline means the collective typed that figure itself and no document has been seen for it. A green tick means we matched something filed — the corporate identity number, or a return we hold a copy of. We would rather show you an unchecked number honestly labelled than a checked-looking one we cannot stand behind.
Does agri.in take a cut of the trade?
No. We are not a buyer, a seller, a broker or a commission agent, and we never hold goods, money or an escrow. Buyers and collectives deal with each other directly on their own terms. Our income is advertising and verified enquiry leads paid for by businesses — never by farmers.
