Bag calculator

Your Soil Health Card gives nutrients in kilograms. Shops sell bags. This turns one into the other — and subtracts the nitrogen your DAP already supplies, which is the step that costs farmers money every season.

Indicative only — not a recommendation. The dose is your Soil Health Card's and your agri officer's. Prices are the notified/printed ones read on the date shown on each product card.

⚖️ Your rights at the counter

  • The printed MRP is the maximum — paying more is an offence, not a local rate
  • A bill is your right, and it is the only thing that makes a complaint stick
  • Ask to see the dealer's FCO licence — a licensed counter will show it
  • The PoS receipt should match the bags you carried out
  • ✕ Tie-in sales — "urea only if you also take this micronutrient" is illegal
  • ✕ Refusing to sell, or holding stock back for a better price — report it

🌱 Using it well

  • Start from the Soil Health Card, not from what worked for a neighbour's field
  • Subtract the nitrogen your DAP already supplies before you decide the urea
  • Split the nitrogen — one full basal dose of urea mostly leaves as gas or water
  • Apply to moist soil and cover it; broadcasting onto dry ground wastes most of it
  • Organic manure feeds the soil, mineral fertilizer feeds the crop — not alternatives

Buying fertilizer in Coimbatore — what the price on the bag actually means

Start with the Soil Health Card, not the shop: it is free, it is issued in your name, and it already carries the crop-wise nutrient recommendation for your field, which is the one thing a shop counter cannot tell you. When you do buy, the price printed on the bag is the maximum you may be charged, and for urea and for the phosphatic and potassic fertilizers under the Nutrient Based Subsidy that printed price already has the subsidy inside it — the government pays the manufacturer, so there is nothing to claim afterwards at an office. Urea's price is notified statutorily and is the same in every state; complexes and DAP carry company-notified prices that change with the season; organics, water-solubles and most micronutrients are open-market and will differ from shop to shop. That is why every card here says who fixed its price. Selling above the printed price, refusing to sell, insisting you buy something else along with the bag, or holding stock back are all offences under the Fertiliser (Control) Order 1985 and the Essential Commodities Act — take the bill, photograph the bag, and report it to your block Agriculture Officer or the Kisan Call Centre. On the field side, the commonest and costliest mistake is arithmetic rather than agronomy: a 50 kg bag of DAP already supplies about 9 kg of nitrogen, and a full urea dose applied on top of it over-applies nitrogen at your own expense. agri.in lists FCO-registered fertilizers and dealers and connects you directly — we never sell, never set a dose and never add commission.

Common questions

Is the subsidy already in the price on the bag?
Yes. For urea and for the P&K fertilizers under the Nutrient Based Subsidy, the government pays the subsidy to the manufacturer, and the price printed on the bag is already the subsidised price you pay at the counter. There is nothing to claim afterwards at an office. That is different from the seed subsidy, which is claimed at the block office against your bill — and confusing the two is how farmers end up either paying twice or never claiming.
What does a grade like 10:26:26 mean?
The three numbers are the percentage by weight of nitrogen (N), phosphate (P₂O₅) and potash (K₂O), always in that order. A 50 kg bag of 10:26:26 carries 5 kg of N, 13 kg of P₂O₅ and 13 kg of K₂O. Urea is 46-0-0 — 46% nitrogen and nothing else. Comparing two bags means comparing what nutrient you get per rupee, not the price of the bag.
Can a shop charge more than the MRP printed on the bag?
No. Selling above the printed maximum retail price is an offence under the Fertiliser (Control) Order 1985 and the Essential Commodities Act, and so is refusing to sell, tying the bag to another purchase, or holding stock back. Insist on a bill — it is the evidence — and report it to the Agriculture Officer at your block office or the Kisan Call Centre 1800-180-1551.
Why do I need my fingerprint to buy fertilizer?
Subsidised fertilizer is sold through a PoS device that records the sale against your Aadhaar. It is how the government confirms the subsidy reached a real farmer rather than an industrial buyer, which is the diversion neem-coated urea was introduced to stop. You pay the printed price; the authentication is the dealer's obligation, not an extra charge, and no dealer may charge you for it.
Does agri.in sell fertilizer or tell me how much to apply?
No. We list FCO-registered fertilizers with their notified prices and dealers, and connect you directly — free, no commission. The dose comes from your Soil Health Card and your Agricultural Officer. Our calculator only converts the nutrient kilograms on your card into bags of actual fertilizer, and subtracts the nitrogen your DAP already supplies. That is arithmetic, not advice.
