How it works
Find your block's coverCover is notified block by block, so the same crop can be insurable in one block and not the next. Check the block your land sits in.
Enrol before the cutoffThrough a CSC or e-Sevai centre, your bank, a PACS counter or pmfby.gov.in. If you hold a crop loan the bank usually enrols you and debits the premium — check, and opt out in writing if you do not want it.
Report damage within 72 hoursFor localised loss — hail, landslide, inundation, cloudburst, natural fire. Call 14447, use the PMFBY app, or tell your bank or agriculture office. Photograph the field first.
The claim reaches your accountSeason-wide yield losses are settled from the government's crop-cutting experiments — you file nothing. Money is paid into your bank account. Nobody needs paying to release it.

Before the cutoff

Who can enrol

  • Any farmer growing a notified crop in a notified block — owner or tenant
  • Tenant and sharecropping farmers, with proof of the agreement
  • Loanee farmers — usually enrolled by the bank automatically
  • A crop that is not notified for your block — even if it is notified in the next block
  • Coconut and other perennials — Tamil Nadu notifies only mango among perennial crops
  • Enrolling after the cutoff — there is no grace period

What to carry, and the claim rules

  • Aadhaar, bank passbook, and land record (chitta / patta / adangal)
  • Tenants: the registered lease or a sworn declaration
  • Sowing declaration for the crop you are insuring
  • Report localised damage within 72 hours — photos of the field help
  • Do not wait for a surveyor before reporting — the 72 hours runs from the damage
Nobody may charge you to enrol, to file a claim, or to "release" a payout. Enrolment at a CSC or bank is free, the claim helpline 14447 is free, and claim money is paid straight into your bank account. If someone asks for a cut, report it to the district agriculture office.

What is my share?

The scheme caps what a farmer pays at a percentage of the insured amount — 2% for Kharif food crops and oilseeds, 1.5% for Rabi, 5% for commercial and horticultural crops. This does that arithmetic for your acres and nothing else.

Indicative only — not a quote. The notified figure for your block is in the table above, and the amount actually debited is set at the enrolment counter. agri.in never sells a policy or collects a premium.

Crop insurance in Coimbatore, explained plainly

PMFBY is the only crop insurance scheme Tamil Nadu runs. What you pay is capped by the scheme — 2% of the insured amount for Kharif food crops and oilseeds, 1.5% for Rabi, 5% for commercial and horticultural crops — and the Centre and the State pay the rest of the premium to the insurer. Your crop must be notified for your block, and enrolment closes on a fixed date each season. agri.in shows the notified figures and the date we read them; we do not sell policies, quote premiums or decide who is eligible.

Common questions

Why is my crop missing from the table?
Cover is notified block by block, and only for the crops the state notifies there for that season. The same crop can be insurable in one block and absent from the next, so a missing row usually means your block was not notified for it — not that you did anything wrong. Coconut is a common example: Tamil Nadu notifies only mango among perennial crops, so coconut has no PMFBY cover here at all.
I have a crop loan. Am I already insured?
Usually yes. Banks enrol loanee farmers and debit the premium from the loan account, often without a separate conversation. That is convenient but it is not automatic proof — ask your branch which crop and which season they enrolled you for, because the cover follows the crop they recorded. If you do not want it, you can opt out, but it must be in writing and before the cutoff.
My crop is damaged. What do I do right now?
For localised damage — hail, landslide, inundation, cloudburst or natural fire — report it within 72 hours. Call the toll-free helpline 14447, use the PMFBY app, or tell your bank or the agriculture office. Photograph the field before you clear anything. Season-wide yield losses work differently: they are settled from the government's crop-cutting experiments and you do not file for them at all.
Do I have to pay anyone to enrol or to get my claim?
No. Enrolling at a CSC, e-Sevai centre, bank or PACS counter costs nothing beyond your own share of the premium, the helpline 14447 is free, and claim money is paid directly into your bank account. Nobody can speed that up, and nobody is entitled to a cut of it. If someone asks for one, report it to the district agriculture office.
What do I actually pay, and who pays the rest?
The scheme caps the farmer's share at 2% of the insured amount for Kharif food crops and oilseeds, 1.5% for Rabi, and 5% for commercial and horticultural crops. The Centre and the State split the remainder and pay it to the insurer on your behalf, which is why the amount you pay is far smaller than the cover you get. The exact rupee figure per acre is notified for your block and is the number shown in the table above.
